CHUMPS is a full-time, year-round Christian childcare and preschool where children are taught by experienced teachers that encourage children to explore in a developmentally appropriate environment as they are encouraged to build friendships and participate in the many joys of learning. The preschool is in its 52nd year of Ministry as it recently celebrated 50 years of ministry in 2018.

Facilities: Classrooms include developmentally appropriate furniture. Large indoor area for indoor play. Fully fenced playground where children can safely play and explore using a variety of equipment.

Safety: The safety of children is a top priority. A Security System with cameras monitor the outside doors and visitors enter only after they are recognized and granted entry from the office. A sign-in, sign-out system insures that only designated adults whose names are on file in the office are allowed to gain possession of children. COVID 19 UPDATE: As a result of the current golbal pandemic, there are currently additional safety restrictions in place.

Curriculum: CHUMC Preschool uses the Tennessee Early Learning Development Standards as a guide for making lesson plans to insure that children will develop to their fullest potential.

Chapel: The Pastor leads the children in a short worship service on a weekly basis during the school year.

Qualification of Teachers: All have multiple years of experience as well as certifications beyond State requirements.

Operational Agreement: relationship between the Church and the Preschool

The Church: actually owns the Preschool and considers its involvement with the Preschool to be a mission  which serves children and their families in the community.  The Church provides the facility at no charge and subsidizes most of the utility expenses.

The Preschool: is financially responsible for cleaning and routine maintenance. It is primarily responsible for the safety and security of the children and staff. 

The Preschool: is governed by the Preschool Administrative Board. This Board assists the Director with business and administrative decisions.  This includes determining fee structures and all staffing decisions.  The Board is comprised of the Preschool Director, Church members, Preschool parents and grandparents.  The Preschool Administrative Board reports to the Church Leadership Team.

The Preschool: also receives the benefit of having a second Preschool Board that serves in a Ministry capacity to help with activities such as Open House, parties, reading to children and fundraising events.

The Church and the Preschool: work cooperatively concerning changes to the facility.  Any physical changes must be approved by the Board of Trustees of CHUMC.
