Jr. High “Seek” After School (6th-8th grade)

Meeting every Thursday during the school year, the Jr. High “Seek” bible study is geared to helping Jr. High youth seek a personal relationship with God. At 2:30 the church bus picks up youth from Colonial Heights Middle School. We meet at the church for snacks and “hang time” before diving into our hour long devotion. At 4 we have either “open gym” or a physical group activity (games, basketball, four-square, touch football, etc.) Ends at 4:30.

Jr. High “Roots” Faith Group (6th-8th grade)

Every Sunday night, the Jr. High faith group meets at the church for devotions, games, and snacks as we dive a little deeper into the gospel than we would on a Thursday afternoon. We’re currently looking for a house host for this program.

Sr. High Faith Group (9th-12th grade)

On Monday evenings, the Sr. High Faith Group meets at the home of Cham & Conti McMillin for pizza, an indepth bible study and fellowship. We also go on a few retreats throughout the year. We’ve recently been studying Rob Bell’s NOOMA series.

CRAVE Worship

Crave is a casual, contemporary worship experience that was designed to encourage youth and young adults, and really anyone for that matter to worship in a comfortable setting. Held every third Saturday evening (except January when we use the 4th weekend due to Resurrection) we meet usually at CHUMC in the chapel and parlor but on occasion will meet at a home of one of our members usually around a bonfire. The typical Crave service consists of a praise band, guest speaker, and communion, as well as a comfortable “coffee house” atmosphere to fellowship.

Resurrection

Resurrection

Resurrection is Resurrection is a ministry unlike any other. At the center of Resurrection’s ministry is a weekend retreat each January. It’s an evangelistic experience for youths aged 13 – 19 and their adult mentors. Attendees describe their experience as “a spiritual renewal,” “the Gospel proclaimed,” “a closer walk with Christ,” and “awesome fellowship.”

Held at the Gatlinburg Convention Center in Gatlinburg, TN each January, Resurrection happens during two weekend sessions. Between the two events, hundreds of youth groups take part in the awesome fellowship and musical worship. In 2008, more than 12,300 people attended Resurrection.

Resurrection lasts more than just 48 hours – it’s something that accompanies youth on their walk with Christ all year long.

Features a passionate guest speaker and guest worship leader/band. Former guests have included speaker Justin Lookadoo and artists Chris Tomlin, Starfield, and this year, Kristian Stanfill. (3rd weekend of January)

Johns Island Mission Trip

(Ages 14+ or 9th Grade+)

Perhaps one of the most influential events we hold all year. CHUMC has been traveling to Johns Island, SC for nearly two decades now, helping hundreds of families with anything from basic home repair to building ramps, porches, new construction, and roofing. During this trip, you will come face to face with God through the people we meet, through each other, and through God’s creation looking out on marshes from the mission or at the ocean during communion on Friday. A typical trip consists of travel days on 2 Saturdays, Sunday we attend church typically at St. James UMC or Stono Baptist Church then an afternoon at the beach, workdays from Monday-Friday, with an afternoon/evening in downtown Charleston on Wednesday. God is the center of this trip and we promise once you go, you’ll never want to leave! Takes place the 2nd or 3rd week of June. (June 12-19 for 2010)

Jr. High Summer Retreat

(Mission Oriented)

Last year, due to liability reasons we are unable to take Jr. High youth to Johns Island, we began last year with a Jr. High Retreat to Camp Lookout, GA with a day in downtown Chattanooga. This year, we’re looking at a possible mission oriented trip to Chattanooga, Nashville, the Jubilee Project, or Project Crossroads. Takes place in July.
